Course Description

This course provides a balanced theatre arts program that guides students to achieve the standards in the performing arts, emphasizing artistic perception and creative expression.  Students are trained in the fundamental skills of the theatre arts, including improvisation techniques, body control, voice, diction, pantomime, learning of lines, creation of character, projection of ideas and emotions, and preparation and acting of scenes from plays.  Acting projects provide positive group experiences in collaborative assignments and opportunities to develop self-discipline, to evaluate the performances of others, and to accept constructive criticism.  Objectives and activities include developing language skills and appreciation through reading dramatic literature; writing dramatic scenes, character analyses, and play reports; observing with sensitivity; listening critically; and speaking effectively.
