AP English Literature and Composition (Period 4th)

Course Description

This course is designed to meet the requirements and expectations of the current AP English Course Description. Students read literature selections and respond by applying rhetorical techniques and language concepts in written form. The course emphasizes literary analysis and concise rhetoric. The history of British literature is studied in depth, with emphasis on poetry comparison and style analysis. Outside of British literature, students read a variety of other fictional pieces, including novels, short stories, and poetry by both American, British, and world authors.  Students respond to all literature based on rhetorical context, including audience, purpose, and tone. Students are expected to read critically, think analytically, and write clearly and effectively.
